On many Amtrak trains, you may check Baggage
to or from major stations along the route. Amtrak's nationwide
parcel and pullet shipping service, Amtrak Express, is offered
at most of these locations. Specific trains and stations offering
these services are noted in the Timetables you can pick up at
any Amtrak train station, or they can be mailed to you as well.

Carry-On Baggage: Carry-on lubbage is limited to
two (2) pieces per passenger. Luggage may not exceed 50lbs. per
piece and must not exceed the dimensions of a moderate-sized Pullman
suite. Carry-on limits per passenger will not apply to prses,
briefcases, laptop cases or cosmetics cases. Additionally, carry-on
limits will also not apply to paraphenalia such as car seats,
diaper bags, strollers, or equipment required for a consumer's
medical condition.
Checked Baggage Service: Amtrak offers checked baggage
service at many stations and on many trains and Amtrak Thruway
buses throughout the country.Trainand stations that handle baggage
are indicated in all Timetables. Each ticketed passenger may check
three pieces, not to exceed 50 lbs. (23 kG) per piece at no charge.
A maximum of three additional pieces, and overweight items up
to 75 lbs. (34 kG) will be accepted upon payment of a surcharge.
Oversized items checked to destinations served by connecting Thruway
motorcoaches offering checked baggage service are subject to delay;
tandem bicycles are not handled on these services.
Checking Baggage: Baggage checked less than 30 minutes
prior to departure (one hour for bicycles that need to be boxed
at the station) may be delayed. Pack your baggage using sturdy
luggage or containers, able to withstand normal handling, and
attach your name and address to each item, free identification
tags are available. Bicycle boxes, shipping boxes and ski boxes
are available for purchase at stations that accept checked baggage.
Claiming Baggage: Checked baggage will be available
for claiming within 30 minutes of arrival. Always identify your
baggage by the claim check numbers. Amtrak will collect your claim
tickets when you receive your checked baggage. Storage charges
apply to baggage not claimed within two days of arrival.
Special Items and Bicycles: Amtrak accepts a number
of special items such as baby strollers, bicycles, golf bags,
musical instruments, skis (one per box), etc. In most cases there
is a handling charge. Bicycles must normally be in containers
provided by the passenger or Amtrak; certain trains identified
in Amtrak Timetables, can handle bicycles not in containers, a
reservation for this space is usually required for which a nominal
charge is made.
Prohibitted Items: Dangerous, fragile, and valuable
items, including electronic equipment as well as animals, household
goods, and overweight and oversize items are prohibited in checked
baggabe service.
Liability: Amtrak accepts liability for checked
baggage to a maximum of $500.00 per ticketed passenger. You may
declare additional valuation up through $2500.00, upon payment
of the applicable charge. Amtrak disclaims liability under certain
circumstances and for certain items. Claims must be submitted
within 30 days of travel.
Baggage To/From Canada: Checked baggage to or from
Canada will only be accepted on the same train as the passenger.
Customs regulations prevent unaccompanied baggage being handled
across the boarder. All baggage must be unlocked for Custom inspection
and bear an identification tag with passenger's name and address.
Assistance With Baggage: Baggage assistance is provided
free of charge by uniformed Redcaps at many major stations. All
baggage handled by Redcaps is protected by a claim check. Amtrak
recommends that you accept assistance only from a uniformed Redcap
and that you demand claim checks for each piece. Items handled
by Redcaps are not checked baggage, and you are responsible for
them once loaded onto train. Maximum liability is $50.00 per bag.
In addition to Redcap service, man stations have self-service
bagage carts available free or at a nominal charge.
